Call for Youth Readers for MLK Celebration

  • Natick High School 15 West Street Natick, MA 01760 (map)

The Natick MLK Dream Team, is thrilled to have permission to read the children's story, "The ABCs of Black History," by Rio Cortez, illustrated by Lauren Semmer, as part of this year's event. (Click this link to watch a story time reading of "The ABCs of Black History" by CSUF Future Titans Read.)

We are seeking youth of all ages to participate as Readers, independently or with an adult/caregiver. Each reader will be assigned page(s) to read in front of our event audience as the book's illustrations are projected. Please fill out the form (linked here) to apply to be a Reader!

The program takes place on Monday, January 19th. All applicants will participate between 9:30-11:30am that day. Adults must be present at the event. Reader's adults are welcome to participate with their child if the child cannot fully read on their own.  Though the story is written in English, we welcome participants to deliver their part of the reading in a way that makes them feel comfortable.

Filling out this form is not a guarantee that you will be chosen as a Reader this year. The MLK Dream Team will follow-up by email with all applicants by December 15, 2025. If you have questions, please contact Heather Rockwood, Executive Director of the Natick Center Cultural District at executivedirector@natickcenter.orgThank you!
